About

"We aim to bring national and international production standards to regional publishing and currently serve thousands of retail outlets throughout the UK and Ireland with the highest quality regional titles. We attempt to reflect and focus the cultural and artistic aspects of each region we work in as well as its heritage and life. We also publish for and on behalf of a range of clients and partners in a way which promotes their mission, informs, entertains and educates. We are focused on innovation in regional publishing, constantly seeking to identify new products, customers and markets. Increasingly Halsgrove is developing a presence in European & international markets and seeking to supplement organic growth by acquisition.”

Described by one reviewer as the Rolls-Royce of local books, Halsgrove’s pedigree at the heart of regional publishing is defined by the publication of titles of national quality in regional and niche interest markets. For three decades we have built upon this reputation, taking the experience acquired through our Westcountry origins to become the major player in the regional hardback market, publishing books aimed at local and specialist interest readers throughout the UK and increasingly in other European countries. The Halsgrove Group is owned and managed by its directors Guy Pugsley and Steven Pugsley.

It is through the successful identification of geographic and other niche areas which enjoy focused public interest together with a high quality Art List, and the addition of specialist series and many one off titles that individual booksellers and other retailers can enjoy significant sales of competitively-priced, quality books which national publishers often overlook. In more recent years, strands of particular interest have included contemporary art, art history, transport, aviation, politics, political history, natural history, exploration, military and leisure. Halsgrove's marketing reach frequently combines with that of regional and national agencies, public bodies and private companies to promote their mission in book form.

Expertise in identifying commercially successful titles covering focused-interest subjects that readers love to buy is at the core of continued expansion.

For Authors

Individual authors seeking publication of their work should make contact by e-mail in the first instance please with a brief synopsis (no more than 400 words and if appropriate up to four images) of their project to ascertain whether it has potential within the Halsgrove list.

Please contact sales@halsgrove.com and your email will be forwarded to the relevant commissioning editor who will be in contact if it is something Halsgrove can progress with. Due to the high number of proposals received, please allow at least a month, although if it is of interest the editor will always do their best to respond well inside this.

Synopses of substantially more than four hundred words, unsolicited materials and scripts or disks where contact has not been made in advance are not acceptable and we assume no responsibility for them or their return. We would prefer proposals to be made in an email, but if sent by post, please provide an email address for reply.

Standard author contracts are issued following a commission or acceptance of the work.

Services

Halsgrove continues to publish works for a number of corporate clients, local authorities, marketing associations, schools, colleges and other interest groups.

Where such works have potential trade sales, we may undertake marketing and distribution. Depending upon the project and client requirements Halsgrove can provide a complete publishing service from editorial, design and production through marketing, promotion and distribution.

Please contact us and your email will be forwarded to the relevant commissioning editor.

Special Sales

We are pleased to receive enquiries from publishers/distributor's who wish to sell or market our books outside the UK. Special discounts are available on firm sale to those wishing to purchase limited quantities for resale into non-UK markets.

Rights

International rights and co-editions have successfully been sold throughout the world. Paperback rights have been negotiated with UK publishers on a number of hardback titles.

Original text and illustrations are supplied digitally and co-edition printing and translation arranged. Additional permissions, if required, can be negotiated on a publisher's behalf on request.

Digital

Halsgrove remains committed to publishing books as printed objects of the highest quality, but has considerable in house digital capabilities that can be employed across the range of our activities. These are made available to assist in the promotion, marketing and distribution of our titles as well as undertaking free-standing projects in related niche areas.

We frequently combine with authors, regional and national agencies, public bodies and private companies to offer a digital overlay to projects which involve assisting their mission through publishing and that are aimed into markets where we have particular expertise.
